The first Group 1 of the season in Victoria is here, and Caulfield is the stage. The Memsie Stakes always brings a cracking field, and with rain in the forecast, things could get messy in the best possible way. Perfect time to sniff out some value.
We’ve gone hunting through the San Domenico Main Event legs and found three runners at odds who can light up your ticket if things fall their way.
Leg 7: Caulfield R7 #15 Outback Miss
If the skies open, this girl shoots right up the rankings. Unbeaten on wet ground and absolutely airborne when fresh, Outback Miss brings plenty of upside. Last prep she strung together back-to-back wins before measuring up in group company, and the map looks ideal here. She’s the kind of runner that sneaks into your ticket and suddenly makes it look genius.
Leg 8: Rosehill R8 #3 Beiwacht
The Silver Slipper winner who had excuses next two runs – now back as a sharper, stronger 3YO. His trials have been outstanding: first chasing home Autumn Glow and Linebacker, then putting them away with ease in his latest hit-out. At odds, he looks the classic blowout chance in the Rosehill feature.
Leg 10: Rosehill R9 #20 State Of America
This bloke was stiff not to win first-up. Shuffled back, no room, and still managed to savage the line over 1400m. He’s got form turning up second and third run in, and although 1500m might be short of his absolute sweet spot, he’ll be sharper for that fresh run. If he gets clear air this time, don’t be shocked if he’s the one swooping late.
Final Word
The big names will get the attention, but weekends like this are where roughies can turn you into a Showdown champion. Outback Miss, Beiwacht and State Of America all tick boxes to run a race at odds – and if one of them salutes, your San Domenico Main Event ticket could be alive deep into the card.
