There’s a real sense of Spring Fever this week, especially at Caulfield with the running of the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes. There’s solid support cards at Rosehill and Doomben too, so here’s three roughies to consider including in your Showdown ticket.
Leg 3 – Doomben R6 #8 Four Ace
I think he’s the wrong price in his Queensland debut. At his last Victorian start he ran third to Outta Compton at Ballarat – a form line that’s stacked up nicely over winter. While 1200m might be short of his very best, his sharp trials over 870m suggest the Geran team have him tuned for a bold first-up run.
Leg 4 – Rosehill R7 #11 Ang Pow
He’s far from the class runner in this race, but most of his main rivals will be looking for 2000m and beyond. He was good first-up and should strip fitter here, plus he strikes a heavy track which he relishes. That combination could see him surprise a few at double-figure odds.
Leg 6 – Caulfield R6 #8 Thanks Gorgeous
She gave plenty of cheek two starts back when second to Signature Scent, who is well-fancied here. While big odds that day, the run rated strongly. With a positive jockey switch to Damian Lane and a handy draw to go forward, she’s capable of giving this a real shake.
A cracking weekend of racing across three states – and if one or two of these roughies salute, your Showdown ticket could be in for a serious boost.
