We’re just two weeks out from the first Group 1 of the season, and the Missile Stakes headlines this week’s Showdown action. While all eyes will be on the Randwick feature, we’ve found three runners at Moonee Valley who could add some serious value to your ticket.
Leg 8 – Moonee Valley R7 #3 Relentless Voyager
His two Australian runs have been solid without much luck, getting a long way back on each occasion and finding the line nicely. His European form is elite, and now third-up with a senior jockey going on, he looks ready to strike. Expect him to settle closer and be strong late.
Leg 11 – Moonee Valley R8 #1 Prince Helena
He’s right in a race like this if he can replicate his best form from earlier in the prep. A third in the Swan Hill Cup three back was followed by a fifth behind Jimmy The Bear at Flemington, then a narrow defeat in the Narrendera Cup giving the winner 7.5kg. With a soft draw and Hannah Edgley’s 3kg claim, he’s capable of measuring up to this.
Leg 12 – Moonee Valley R9 #1 Apache Song
Happy to forgive her first-up run in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes where she was unsuited by the sit-and-sprint tempo. She’s a proven Valley performer, having won three here and placed at Group 2 level – all in fast-run races, which this shapes to be. From a middle draw she can cross early, settle in the first few, and give a bold sight dropping back to this grade.
Plenty of value to be found at The Valley this Saturday, and if one or two of these roughies lob, it could give your Showdown ticket a big shake. Good luck if you’re playing along!
