The Leg Up’s UPC Showdown Roughie Report – Saturday, July 26

Better then most punters?

Give it a go to see if you have what it takes to redeem the massive cheque each week.

It’s the final Saturday of the racing season and we’re going out swinging! While the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes headlines a solid card at Caulfield, there’s plenty of depth across Randwick and Doomben to uncover some genuine Showdown value. Here are three roughies we’re liking to boost your leaderboard tally:

Leg 3 – Doomben R6 – #14 Celestial Fury

He’s ticking along nicely this prep, and now gets out to his right trip at 2200m fourth-up. Last start he was brave at the mile with a wide draw and a big weight – and he only just missed. Now he drops sharply in the weights, draws low, and gets Angela Jones on board. If he sees clear air at the right time, he can surprise.

Leg 10 – Caulfield R8 – #7 Apache Song

She’s the longest priced runner in the Bletchingly, but that doesn’t mean she’s without hope. Apache Song showed plenty of promise last prep, rising through the grades and improving each time. She’s forward-running, race-fit, and gets Blake Shinn, who has the Vic Jockeys’ title wrapped up. With no tempo in this race, she might just pinch it at big odds.

Leg 11 – Randwick R10 – #2 Vega Magnifico

He returned well first-up, running past a subsequent winner in Sly Boots, and now looks ready to step up. Second-up and out to 1800m is ideal, and he should strip much fitter. This looks a soft enough target for him to go to another level, and he’s been overlooked by the market. Value.

Summary

Season’s end doesn’t mean value ends — in fact, offseason roughies often go around at inflated prices, making this a perfect time to get involved. Celestial Fury, Apache Song, and Vega Magnifico can all run bold races at a price and finish your 24/25 season on a high.
